We are Jon and Barbara Mattix and we are getting ready to full time as soon as our house sells. In the meantime we are looking at 5th wheels and motorhomes. Does anyone have a Rear Kitchen in a 5th wheel and how do you like it? The Rear Kitchen seems to have more space, but looks like more weight behind the wheels and more bounce which would seem to be hard on the appliances.
Any Comments are welcome - Thanks

We have had both rear and center kitchens and I prefer the center kitchen. The rear kitchen tended to get the glasses bounced around more. With the center kitchen, it is a lot easier to BBQ and eat outside because the kitchen is a lot closer when carrying food and dishes. Also, we like lots of windows, and with a center kitchen you can have a lot more windows in the back making for a nice living space. Still, it boils down to what you are comfortable with and the floor plans that suit your tastes. Good Luck.

We love our center kitchen, so easy to go in and out. Also dishes and glasses don't get bounced around so much. Good Luck !!! Keep looking you will find just the right one.

We have a TT with a rear kitchen, and we love it. The design of the unit takes the weight into consideration and the wheels are placed accorrdingly to compensate for the weight. There is a little more bounce with the canned goods but we have never had anything come out of a cabinet or the fridge. From someone who has had both in a TT I would say if the rear kitchen floor plan fits you better go for it. I would not hesitate in buying my next one with a rear kitchen. As a matter of fact I will probably look for a rear kitchen floor plan. After all I hardly ever take mine four-wheelin with me, (just a joke) but meaning most roads are quite all right. We might have to re-arrange a few cans every once in a while from a rough RR crossing or something like that, but so far nothing more, and we have had it for 3 years.

If you like the rear kitchen then that's probably what you should get. Today's RVs are better balanced and more thought is being put into weight distribution (it's not prefect yet, but it is getting better). Have an air ride system installed on the axels, that will further eliminate the bounce and smooth out the ride. Then you should be just fine. We've never had a rear kitchen so hopefully you'll hear from people that have had them.

Thank for all your comments. Since Dealers always have good things to say about this subject its good to hear from those with experience.
Like I said, we are still looking and will be until the house sells, then we will make a decision.
Thank You All bj

An alternative to an air ride system is the Mor/Ryde IS suspension. Our previous Newmar 5er had MR IS, as does our current Royals International. Our Newmar had a rear kitchen and with the MR we could leave cannisters and toaster on the counter with no problems ever, in 3 years we had that trailer (fulltime).
Personally, I prefer the MR to the air. Longer track record and works very well. Easier to repair, if needed, and less to go wrong. The advantage of some air systems is that you can do some side-to-side leveling with them.
