Okay, someone had to ask it. What does everybody do for toilet paper? I see they sell "special" toilet paper but surely there are some success and horror stories about this. Can't see getting those field corn cobs through that 3" ball valve.

Hi Larry, we use Rv type TP. But we have been told you can use any type. I haven't tryed any other kind. As for shower's, we don't do much boondocking. But for us guys 10 minutes should take care of business. But if you have to shave your leg's, oh well that's for the ladies to answer... The corn cob issue is a problem, as you know you should have two colors, one red and white. Red to wipe, white to check. Replacing them and storage is the real problem. Life is Good... GBY...

Hi Larry, We've been fulltiming in a Carriage Cameo since Febuary. We use Angel Soft 2 ply (septic safe), without any issues. We've read many group discussions on this subject, including the use of chemicals and came to the conclusion, that the need for special paper and chemicals is better for the sellers than the users. On showers while boondocking, you only have a limited amount of water in your holding tank and have to watch any use of it carefully. I think most people do military showers. Fred

As for toilet paper, the general consensus seems to be that you can use any type or brand of toilet paper that will quickly dissolve when you swish a couple sheets around in a glass of water (Scott single-ply, for example). However, we have heard from others that use whatever they want. We're not quite willing to go that far - the glass of water test makes sense to us.

The glass of water test is really the best way to make sure that your favorite TP is going to cut it in the "dissolve quickly" category. I wanted to use the softest thickest TP I could get away with, but definitely did not want to plug up our system. We tested a number of different brands, and I was pleased that the Angel Soft passed the test. It's double ply; I didn't want to have to use single ply just cuz I'm living in an RV.
Those "special" RV brands are just hype and expensive. I wanted something I could get consistently and cheaply, no matter where we were.

When we were preparing to Rv, we put our grandkids to work on this question. They had so much fun and did such a good job, they were able to use their expeirments for a school project! I gave them an outline to go to the store and purchase several different kinds of TP. They needed to include what we both used in our homes, as well as others. They included some of that "green" type as well as some of the "special" TP from the RV store. They kept very good records including the cost of each kind. The winner? Angel Soft 2 ply and Scotts 2 ply both dissolved the fastest and most complete, but when they figured in the cost, Angel Soft 2 ply was the most economical. And if you watch for sales, you can get an even better buy.

Angel soft works great! It dissolves almost immediately. Been using it for 6 years and never a problem.
