Do you have anything in particular, a "Theme" if you will, when you travel?
Although we are High Intensity Part Timers, we often seek out old fashioned train rides in our travels. We've done the Grand Canyon train ride in AZ, the 1880s train ride near Mt. Rushmore in SD, the Conch "train" ride in Key West, FL and of course the Monorail at Disney World. When we hit the road as fulltimers, we want to hit every Six Flags Amusement Park, we're roller coaster junkies.
What is your "Theme"? Seeing a baseball game in every major league ballpark? Visiting every quilting bee in the midwest? Or feeding humming birds in every campground you stay in?
Best Regards!

If you are interested in old train rides, you must check out the Cog Railway up the side of Mt. Washington if you are ever in New Hampshire. At 137 years old, its the oldest mountain climbing railway in the world. At 6,288 feet, Mt. Washington is the highest mountain peak in the eastern quandrant of the US. We just visited the summit this week. I had wanted to take the Cog train, but we opted for the guided van ride up the Auto Road instead. Here's a link to the Cog's website: Cog Railway

I started out with a proposed theme of seeing every Presidential Library. Haven't been able to see any yet, but that is still my goal. Beyond that, I actively seek out true historic sites, especially sites related to our Presidents, and to the Civil War. We've been to Jimmy Carter's boyhood home, FDR State Park near Warm Springs, GA which FDR frequented, and the "Little White House" where FDR spent a lot of time, and died, the famous Civil War prisoner of war camp at Andersonville which now includes the national Prisoner of War Museum, and Gettysburg. So I'm a bit of a political history junkie and will sometimes have that guide our itinerary.

We also want to visit all the presidential libraries/museums. We also want to do the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Pony Express Trail and The Oregon Trail. Sounds like we'll be out west for awhile.
Dan has an interest in vintage airplanes, so I'm sure we'll look for airplane museums. He also likes to search out the "local cafe" in small towns, so we'll probably be doing a "pie and coffee" tour of the USA.

Prior to our full timing stint, we visited almost every antique store and used book store in the neighborhood. However, thanks to Ebay, the quality of a lot of shops has fallen to garage sale level. Now, that is not as important as it was, although we have a lot of storage space in Colorado.
Photography, especially landscape photography is now my theme. So we search out interesting places and things to see. Fortunately digital photography doesn't require a dark room http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/smile.gif. I have also considered free lance hobby/collecting books and other writing.
Trying to practice "Take only pictures and leave only foot steps." It is certainly cheaper that way.

Our top level theme/goal is to see all the states (I guess except Hawaii) and we have the map on the door to fill in. I've wanted to do that since I was a grade schooler. We have to stay overnight in the state to put it on the map :).
Then we like to follow rivers and see lakes and reservoirs. I enjoy taking waterscapes shots and sunsets of course. I have been tracking our travels on an atlas map for our 3 years on the road. We've enjoyed seeing the Snake, Missouri, Salmon, Bitteroot, Columbia, Fox, Red, Wabash and Mighty Mississippi Rivers in various states.
Jim likes to visit air museums and military ships. I enjoy talking to the volunteers who "man" those sites.
We love to shop and always visit the local Starbuck's and any "natural" food stores like Whole Foods or Wild Oats. Since there are wineries in every state we check out what's nearby and take a tasting tour. Wine in Nebraska and Arizona...amazing!
Different strokes for different folks!

Besides the goal of seeing all of the states, we like geocaching our way forward. It amazes me how many neat little places we find geocaching. We have discovered towns that we probably never would have bothered to see. As well as finding parks and historical monuments. When we are in an area for longer than a couple of days, we search for treasures.

We want to visit all of the lower 48 states and bike on a Rails to Trails bike trail in each state. Also enjoy visiting historical sites and want to do a couple of Habitat for Humanity houses each year.

I guess our "Theme" is to visit most of the western states as we have been easteners most of our lives. Living 10 yrs in New Mexico we love the history here. However, we want to visit the National pks. have been to some of them 4 times such as the Grand Canyon we never tire of it. Love the North Rim. So redwoods, Mt. Rushmore, Glacier Nat. Pk, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons here we come.
