We recently purchased a pre-owned DRV MS. It has a factory installed water filtration system, but do we need to purchase a separate system to "pre" filter the water? I say we need one, hubby says we dont! 😄

What filters are in the built-in system? If you already have a particulate and low micron/carbon filter, that would be enough for us. That is all we have had (in series ahead of a water softener) for the last 7 years. We also run the supply faucet on the ground for a few seconds to make sure there is no rusty water in the line before we connect up. This prevents premature fouling of your filters/softener.

I agree with mb36912. Our RV came with an undersink carbon filter for drinking water. We added a two canister set from https://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com with a 5 micron and 1 micron filter. In soft water areas, like much of the Pacific Northwest, this is sufficient. In hard water areas, like Arizona and Florida, we put in a water softener and add a Brita pitcher to take more of the salt out. We have had the hard water mess up our toilet, faucets and hot water heater with deposits.

Pre-filtering the water prior to entering the RV can be a good idea. It can have various benefits, such as: making sure nothing enters the RV's plumbing system that might cause an issue, that filter may be easier to regularly replace, and/or if the external filter is a lower cost filter, that can help extend the life of a pricier interior installed filter(s).
Thank you everyone for your comments! We've decided to add the external system from the rvfilterstore - might be overkill but I guess overall it can only be a benefit to our rig!

I guess it would depend on how extensive the filtration system is that you currently have. I'm a overkill sort of guy so my knee jerk answer is yes LOL!!
