I have steps and they do decrease off-roading capability. Are side step bars better? Should I switch?

It all boils down to how low do either extend below the rocker panels. Use a tape measure. The further below the rocker panel the more likely you will be to high-center.

Larry, I think you posted that question so you could show-off your new nice-looking truck.

I know that some Ford products have running boards (with steps) that retract electrically when all the doors are closed. Would something like that be available aftermarket for your truck?

I prefer side bars better on that setup.

There are electric retractable running boards available. They aren’t inexpensive but neither are a good set of side bars. Having had both, if I was going to install one or the other, the retractable running boards would be my choice. Money isn’t the issue when it’s cold or wet and your foot slips off the runnings board. The retractable running board provides a lot more space for your foot compared to the the solid bars, round or flat. (Have had both styles). In fact one of the reasons I sold my truck with flat running boards and bought one with retractable was my foot slipped and while I caught myself in the fall I twisted my back to the point I spent a couple of months recovering. In the two years I owned the truck with retractable board, same weather condition, I never once came close to having my foot slip. Again just my opinion.

Well it's a nice looking truck anyway.
