We’re looking for a nice RV Park close to Harlingen, about an hour from South Padre Island for just over a month in December. Between $500-$700 USD would be right. Any suggestions?

There are many parks in South Texas. Depending on what you are looking for, my parents lived in a park called Southern Comfort RV Resort in Weslaco, TX for several years. It is about half way between Harlingen and McAllen. Southern Comfort is a part of the Encore RV Resort system. There are many amenities, friendly people and and the park is well maintained. There are people who live there full time, own park models and live there seasonally and those that bring their RV down for a shorter period of time. It is within your price range as well.

I just arrived at a park in Los Indios yesterday (not far from Harlingen). The name is Anglers Nest and they have very reasonable prices. Check out their website and if you are interested give them a call right away, as they fill up fast for the winter.

Thanks for answering back guys. We booked in at tropic winds rv in Harlingen after lots of looking and reading. They had a special rate for first time guests that we couldn’t pass up. Hopefully it’s as nice as the pictures.

Are you a Thousand Trails Encore member? I didn't know you could stay at one of their parks if not a member.

No we’re not members and they didn’t seem to care on the phone. We feel there will be a sales pitch when we get there though. They didn’t even ask if we’re members. Happy to take our money all the same.

Encore parks do not require you to be Thousand Trails members. They keep a few sites open for Thousand Trails members who paid extra for the Trails Collections, but otherwise they are open to the public.

This has gotten me thinking. I was going to go full-time in late March. But it's gotten colder in Kansas now and I'm considering a couple months in south Texas. Also my brother's 3 teenagers have moved in with us. (My brother & I live in my late father's house for now.) So I started researching the RGV. I'd take my Can-Am Spyder with me and my Spyder friends have said there's not much in the way of fun riding in the RGV. So I am also considering the Hill Country. It's not so warm, but maybe more fun.
Or I'll do the RGV in January and then move to the Hill Country in February-March. I'm also looking at the Corpus Christi area.
Any other ideas?

The Hill Country should provide some fun driving. One of the drives I have enjoyed is HWY 16 (Medina Highway) between Kerrville and Medina. Twisty, hilly and narrow.
Medina and Bandera are also nice hill country towns to visit.
