I have Truely Unlimited plan with Verizon, the one that is not available any longer. I also HAVE a Ellipsis hot spot devise that I want to switch outfit a better device. BUT, when I go into Verizon to get a new device they tell me they HAVE to change my plan in order to activate it which of course I don't want to do and loose my truly unlimited plan. One of the Verizon people said I might be able to buy a device on Amazon and then call Verizon myself and have it activated without losing my plan. I know, call and ask them is what some will answer with but when I called and complained that the local Verizon shop said they had to change my plan the person on the phone said, oh no, they can do it and I will call the store closest to you and tell them so, which he said he did. But when I went into the store again I was once again told no. So I would rather hear it from someone that maybe HAS done this with successfully before I spend a couple hundred dollars on a device to only find out it won't work. Thanks in advance

I've switched both Verizon and AT&T hotspot deices by just buying the new device on eBay, etc., and then swapping the SIM from the original device to the new device. No calls to the carriers were needed...

Someone is feeding you a line of B.S. We replaced our hot-spot at a Verizon corporate store and absolutely nothing was said about our prepaid unlimited plan.

Thanks everyone, I went to a Authorized Verizon store, a actual Verizon store and a Best Buy and they all told me the same thing. But with that said I will probably do as suggested and also check with Technomadia and do as also mentioned and buy a unit and switch the sim card. I imagine buying one off Amazon would give the same result as Ebay, yes?

As long as the hotspot has a clean IMEI, it won't matter where you buy it.

We had the battery to sweal up in our Elipes. I went to Verizon and got same song. Went to Best Buy and bought the 8800l outright. Put our Sim in and all is well.
