Hi All!My husband and I have been dreaming of spending time traveling the country in our own “prairie schooner”!After much research, both at RV shows and on line we decided that a 5th wheeler would be the best choice for us. My husband, Mike, retired 4 years ago and I have 190 workdays left.Last month, we put the house up for sale – it sold in less than a week, purchased a Ford F350 Diesel King Ranch dually truck with a 5th wheel hitch mounted in the extended bed, and rented an apartment. It was quite the week!
I know I am going to have a million questions and this group seems well informed and willing to help out the newbies. So I want to thank you all in advance!

Welcome, Kathy. This is an excellent forum for information. Glad you have decided to join us.
The only thing now to keep in mind is the capacity of the fifth wheel hitch and truck to make sure you won't get an RV that would be more than the weight capacity of the hitch. As a "general rule," most of us here tend to choose the RV first and then size the truck and fifth wheel hitch to that rig.

Welcome, this is a very good forum. It's not the busiest but the information you get here is absolutely the best, bar none. Have fun and ask all the question you would like. Hopefully those 190 days will go quickly.
Just an idea to think about is to get your 5er before you are done working and give up the apartment. Spend some time in it while you are stationary and you have another place to live may ease the transition. Just a thought.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! We do plan on getting the 5th wheel and staying stationary for some time before moving on. I am still working until next March, so once we clean out the house and move, maybe we can start looking for our 5th wheeler and have some time in it before I retire. We will need a place to store or park it anyway. Even if we don't find it that quickly, we will be stationary while we figure things out!
The previous owner pulled a 40' 5th wheeler with it. That being said, we will be making sure we don't get an RV that is over the weight capacity of the hitch, I appreciate the caution! All of the forums that I have seen have said it's important to have a good truck to pull your rig, but stopping it is even more important. We feel that this rig will give us that peace of mind!

Welcome Kathy! How exciting that plans are coming together for you! We're currently RV shopping. Planning to travel 6 +/- months a year and be here in South Texas the rest of the year. There are a lot of great 5th wheels out there. Not sure if you are looking for new or used, but you might want to look at the Riverstones. They are heavy but seem really well built. At least worth looking at
