As many of you may know my wife and I are planning on going full time in a couple of years. For quite a while now my plan has been to get a Super C motorhome and pull a trailer big enough to house my motorcycle and a small car, likely an older jeep. However, as folks on here have pointed out carting around a coach, a motorcycle, a trailer and a car would be quite a big and cumbersome rig. At most campground I would likely have to store the trailer somewhere off of my campsite. This got me to thinking, I currently own a Ford F150 with a manual transmission so it can be flat towed. My motorcycle will fit in the back of it with the tailgate closed. The has led me to start rethinking my plan. If I can find or make a cap for my pickup that would allow me to have the motorcycle covered when in transit it would eliminate the trailer. I know I can make a cap I was wondering if anyone knows of a cap manufacturer that makes a cap with at least a 64 inch height from the bed of the truck. The door opening would have to be at least 62 inches to clear the windshield on the bike. I would also like to know if I need a braking system on the truck if I am going to tow it. From what I can see it looks like it is about $1,500 for the tow bar and about the same for the auxiliary brake controller. Any ideas, comments, suggestions etc.?

You will definitely need a braking system on the pickup, especially with a motorcycle in/on it.

Not sure about the large cap but the pickup with the cycle in the bed is way better than the hassle with a trailer. And yes, braking system would be required.

We've seen lots of people with pickups carrying motorcycles or ATVs pulled behind motorhomes. And none of them had a big cover like you are planning, just a 'tarp' kind of covered. I assumed that the motorcycle was locked in the bed in some way, sort of like people who carry motorcycles on lifts the back of motorhomes.

Seems a reasonable plan....a toad and your motorcycle...provided the Super C is rated for the weight.
