We are going to winter in Phoenix area. Does anyone have any experience or recommendation for a very good orthopedic doctor/surgeon? It’s an ankle bone issue-probably bone spur or something. Thanks.

Some have reported having good success with Mexican Doctors accross the border. I've never done it, but many on this board have, possibly some will chime in if you are up for it. I understand the bills are about 1/2 but not sure if Insurance will pay. As I said, others have tried it and been down that path and can offer advice.

Thanks, RonC. Hadn't thought about that. I will say, so as not to waste any member's time, that I really would not want to go that route. I'm on Medicare anyway so no problem. I would prefer to find someone in Phoenix area.

Just a thought. If I needed ortho surgery, I would look for the hospital next to the ski resort....perhaps Utah or Colorado might be in your best interests?

You might also check with a sports medicine clinic in the area. I'm betting they have lot of call for an orthopedic surgeon.

Oh, obviously one isn't 'old' yet. Orthopedics are big business in areas with high retiree residents. Think of all of our old joints that are slowly wearing away and huge growth in replacement parts.
Where are you going to be in the valley? Check out and see what the big hospitals are in the area you will be, then call them and ask for orthopedic referrals and do some investigating.
