Just curious how many of you tow with an HDT or class 8 tractor? We recently made the switch to a 2005 Freightliner Century after tiring of being at 100% capacity with our RAM 3500 dually, what a difference in control, comfort and stopping ability.

Good for you! Never fun or safe to be towing at or near 100%.

We have our 1998 Volvo 610 that we have been towing with since Nov 2014. We've put almost 100,000 miles on it. If we had been towing with our old 2007 Dodge dually, we would be on our 2nd by now, if not a 3rd. Last 5th wheel Carrilite, was 19500lbs with 4800lb pin. Current DRV is 24000lb with a 5100lb pin. There is a large following on RVNetwork.com and Facebook- HDT.

We tow with our 2006 Freightshaker Century 120. Best move I ever make on a truck. I carry a Smart on bed for daily commute. Until one tows with one, you will never know the difference.

I will say that there was a big difference between my SRW F350 and my current DRW F350. I can only assume that stepping up to a class 8 would be an even bigger improvement. I’m happy with what I have, but when it comes “new truck time”, I will be giving the class 8 trucks a serious look. Congratulations on your decision.

We originally towed with a dually. It had good power and as long as electric brakes worked, stopped fine. I felt very small compared to our 40' Teton. I definitely knew it was back there. Always in the back of my mind, if things went South, I was going to get worse end of things. Had to stop a couple of times with no brakes. Not good. The HDT is so stable, I forget the Teton is back there. Before I went with disc and air over hydraulic brakes, had brake failure and had no problem stopping Teton. I must say also it cost way less than a dually and will likely be last truck I have to buy. I get a tad better mpg also.
