we just got a new Livin Lite trailer and are happy with it. For now we love making small trips 3/4 days to our gorgeous coast, mostky boondocking.
The trailer came with a microwave convection oven with a turn table. I don’t use microwave ovens and want to replace it or not. Most of the cooking is done outside on the grill/bbq. We do have a small 2 burner gas stove. I can see people recommending a Breville toaster/convection oven but am wondering whether anyone has built this in? Or is everyone taking it out, out it on the counter top to use it?
or any suggestion as to not having an oven at all?
Thanks!

A toaster/convection oven would be nice for when you are plugged in or running a generator. I’d put in the microwave’s space. Which gorgeous coast are you visiting?

guess I'm confused on why are you wanting to replace it with a toaster oven. We use our micro/convection combo in place of our oven (which our coach does not have). We have made everything in the convection that we make in the oven at home. Our's bakes cookies, cakes, browns biscuits and rolls ....works quite well actually.

Hi Phil and Rudee,
I don't use a microwave oven. The one that came with the trailer has a turn table, not very practical for the convection part only. So I am wondering whether to replace it or just live without a toaster/convection oven and see how that goes.
I read a lot of RV'rs raving about their convection/toaster oven, I am curious as to what others do.

Before you do anything, use the micro/convection for a few trips. I love mine, but then I like convection ovens. As for the microwave part - lots of 'quick heating' of things plus steaming fish/veggies makes it worth having.

Thank you that is a great suggestion but i rather not use a microwave oven for health reasons. However, that gives me the idea to do a few trips without any oven and then decide.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Health reasons? I have an MS Degree in Chem Eng, DH has a PhD in Biochemistry, I was in the Env Health & Safety field for 20 years. We really are scientists. If there was a problem I wouldn't suggest using one.

Correct me if I am wrong. The convection part of your microwave is a heating and air circulation system that would cook faster than a toaster oven. It should cook with no big difference from a toaster oven. If you don't want to use the microwave portion you already have a great little oven.
We are just beginning to learn our convection oven in our 'new-to-us' motorhome. So far we are liking it. I don't think we are going to miss our propane oven we had in our last RV.
Time will tell, but I think we are going to love it once we get past the learning curve.

Hi Russ,
The difference is that it has a turn table which severely limts other uses. Thanks so much for your feedback though!

In our Sharp convection oven we can take the plate and turn table out. I gives us a little extra room but we always us one of the two racks to cook on. The racks seem to center the food in the cooking space.
We're still learning.

We have a Cuisinart toaster oven and we use it to bake, to warm frozen bread, cook small pizzas, meatloaf, bake cookies and more. We leave our toaster oven set up on the counter with plenty of space around it. When baking, the oven gets hot, so we keep it well away from the tile surrounding the stove area. We don’t have a traditional oven in our rig, although we do have a microwave/convection oven. We haven’t taken the time to learn to use the convection oven - but it’s on our list of things to do. We are happy with with the performance of the toaster oven - we use it daily.

Why are people so afraid of a microwave/convection oven? For the life of me I don't understand what the problem is?

I'm also curious as to the health issue of using a microwave. I do seem to remember when they first came out that there were warning signs in various places about microwaves and perhaps pacemaker units. Not being in the medical field or an engineer, I'm otherwise clueless.

We have the convection/microwave built in. Use the microwave a bit. Don't use the convection part off it too much as it generates a lot of heat into the coach. We did buy a Breville portable convection and love that thing. We can set it on a table outside sometimes if hangin' outside. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/breville-smart-oven-0431489p.0431489.html

Dear all, We prefer not to use a microwave oven to heat things. Based upon research a few years ago i decided that i rather not use a microwave oven. I know people disagree and the subject is controversial, for us, we decided we didn’t need one and do well without one. But thanks to all for responding, so super to hear from people’s experiences! We are not full time rv’ers for now we are only doing short trips max a week. It looks like a toaster oven is something to consider in time.
We are newbees at this, we always went tent camping when we lived in Europe, when we moved to US we realized that the campgrounds are different, distances are larger etc. We got a travel trailer about 6 months ago and are working on it to make the rig prerfect for boondocking, it already has solar panels. Thanks again, i am happy to have found this forum, it’s super!
