My 2018+ travel plans focus is to visit zoos around the country.
I've been fortunate enough to visit a few, and the San Diego Zoo and Denver Zoo stick out as having the best variety and beauty in their enclosures and the animals themselves.
What are the must-see zoos you have attended? Do you have a nearby campground recommendation?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas

Miami Metro Zoo. Stay at Larry and Penny Thompson Campground and they have discounted tickets to the zoo, since they are associated. The campground is the southern border of the zoo, but the zoo entrance is on the north side.
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm in St. Augustine Beach FL. The only place with all varieties of alligators, crocodiles, caymans and related species. Lots of campground choices. We have friends in Jacksonville, so we stay at Hanna Park and it is an hours drive.
Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson AZ. Lots of camping choices.

Depends.......almost all are good for different reasons. We like Reid Park in Tucson but its really small. Have enjoyed san diego, knoxville, houston, and even brownsville tx. Lots of good aquariums too from the small scripps one in la jolla, ca to our favorite in chattanooga, tn. Oh ya....NC zoo in central NC is wonderfull.
get a zoo membership........there are a lot with reciprocal agreements so you can use your membership for free addmission at other zoos.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO has a unique entrance. When first arriving in the main gate, one finds themselves right at the Giraffe enclosures, and they have built up a "deck" where one can stand and hand feed the Giraffes without them having to lower their heads to eat.
The zoo is also the access point to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun. The shrine is actually the resting place for Spencer Penrose and his wife, Julie, and two friends. It is named for Will Rogers, the Oklahoma humorist who died in a plane crash in Alaska with aviator, Wiley Post. The Shrine is up on a shoulder of the mountains and gives a great view of the Colorado Springs area.
Believe it or not, Omaha, NE has a great zoo and some College Baseball World Series stuff nearby.

I concur with RonC. I know it's hard to believe, but Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is probably our favorite zoo in the country (and we've been to a lot).
