I am interested in keeping some sort of map/interactive travel log/journal. I was looking at Google (My Maps) and create my own as I go but wanted input from people who are already traveling.
I like the map idea and the ability to add icons but wanted to see what everyone else used, thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I do my planning on google maps but for the travels map on our blog I use travellerspoint com. It’s free as well. The blog itself is done on Wordpress.com and costs 30 a year or so plus I have my own domain for it that’s 15 a year. Wordpress lets you create posts online or offline with an editor (I use MarsEdit on my Mac) or you can just create them in email and send to a custom address and it gets posted. Squarespace.com is easier to use but I don’t know if they support any mapping functions, it costs more, and only online edit/creation of posts is possible…I don’t use them because offline editing is better.

I'm a little thrifty. I use Blogspot which is free, it is a Google product. It was easy to learn and it was quick to set-up and continues to be a great way for us to keep track of our travels. It's a good way to keep in touch with family and friends. It also has been a great way to organize our photos. With a couple quick clicks you can share your blog to social media IE. Facebook.
I use RVillage as my travel map as well as a few other free feature that I have added through the years.
The best part of keeping a blog is that it causes me to keep track of our travels. After five years of travel my memory isn't capable of recalling details, so when i need to refer back in our travel history I have a written record.
I'm sure that in my old age I'll sit in my recliner and relive our travel years. That time is only a few short years away as time flies by.

We tend to keep photos on our MacBook pro labelled for each trip and date and add any "do you remember brief notes" for future recall and reminiscing. Whilst we are travelling I have a daily journal (my favourite easy to grab and write on the road) given to us by our salesman as a thank you gift, back in the late 90's where I keep brief notes/expenses at the end of each day or two before I forget!
Being a speed typist and used to various systems during working years, I use spreadsheets a lot, inputting based from google searches and mapping prior which details date, days, nights, region, attraction and general notes. In addition I keep a state by state, broken down into nearest town/area of that state with various columns which I update as I read others blogs about places they've been and once we've visited, code for a revisit or not = easy to sort by various categories over time. After almost 20 years there's a lot of useful data and I'm continually adding.
FWIW: Something else just recently I've been playing with is Furkot.com (free). Looking interesting thus far :)
