We have a New Horizon Majestic that is being built. I also have ordered a Ram 5500 w/ Hauler bed on order from Tom Martin at Classy Chassis. We will not be full timing but will spend extended time out, returning home periodically. My question relates to generator storage in one of the front compartments of the hauler bed. We typically do not dry camp. Our last rig did have a built in gen that only got used in a pinch if power was lost. I want to carry a back up generator for the purpose of handle a power outage and to be able to keep batteries charge to maintain residential fridge operation should an outage occur. If possible I would prefer to carry a Honda 3000 rather than the minimum 2000 so in a pinch one AC could be ran if needed. I know a 2000 would fit in one of the front compartments on the hauler bed but my question is, would a 3000 fit in the bin on a slide. The idea would be to not remove the generator from the compartment if needed but to be able to slide it out and operate it without the back breaking effort of trying to pick up this heavy unit. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yes, a 3,000 will fit as I have a picture of one in the Classy bed on rails (reinforced pull-out shelf / mount) and it is a 3,000. However . . .
Call Tom, tell him what you want before the bed is too far along. The compartment, when it is to hold a generator, is constructed with that need specifically in mind. Rails, etc., to handle the weight and make it possible to run the generator pulled out or to remove the generator completely. So give him a call and specify exactly what you need first thing Monday. A nice, clean installation. I don't know if one person could lift a 3,000 out of the compartment at an angled "dead lift." Hence the available pull-out mount for the generator. "They do this."
BTW, I believe the generator can be installed on either side of the truck depending on your desire.

Follow up - Several Majestic / Ram 5500HD rig owners on this site so hang around. Lots of good info when you ask. Sorry you missed the NH Owners Rally in Spearfish, SD last week. Great time there with old and new friends.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Very happy to see all the activity on the site relating to hauler trucks. All the info is appreciated and helps to shorten the learning curve. We will plan to attend the next NHOG rally in the future. This is a passion and it is fun to be able to visit with those that share the same passion.

You should consider putting a second shore power connection with a transfer switch up in the basement of your Majestic if you're going to go the put the genny in the truck route…the power cord won't reach to the truck. You'll need either a 50 or 30 amp extension cord along with appropriate gender benders to end up with the right plug to stick into the Honda.
You will also want to build yourself a Ground Neutral bond plug to keep your Progressive EMS from complaining about no ground.

Thanks for the replies. After discussing with Tom Martin I think I will go the route of two Honda 2000 Companion. They will fit easily into the bin with no modification since most of our Rving is plug to plug they should not get much use but would feel much better to have them as back up. Walls are going up on the New Horizon. I assume we will be looking at completion after the first of the year. Tom has notification on the truck from Ram and expects to receive it in about 30 days. We plan to be making the drive up to Classy Chassis from Texas after the first of the year to pick up and then swing back through Junction City to take delivery of the Majestic. Needless to say the wife and I are pretty jacked up.
Thanks

What Neil said X2 and in case you are not aware, be sure and looking into the combining adapter which provides a true 30 amp receptacle from the combined output of the two generators. Very nice arrangement if going with two 2,000's.
BTW, Neil's suggestion also provides a backup / bypass power input to the rig in case (assuming you opted for it) the power real slip rings give out. Ask Neil "How he knows about this bypass option. (I should have had one installed as well. Just forgot.)
