I haven't been around much lately and miss all my RV-Dreams friends! Being stationary I feel like I don't have much to contribute here. We do live in a community with lots of RVers and I still sell real estate especially for RVers -- think FHU and like minded folks... But no RV in our life right now. 😞
We're still planning an RV in our future. We'll keep our house in Retama Village which we love, but after this summer really looking forward to not soending all summer in south Texas some day!
Jeff looks at RVs online almost every night. Until last week our plan has been to purchase a high quality used DP probably 40+ foot, tow our Jeep Cherokee 4 down and put the HD Trike on a hydolift on the back.
Then we saw the Grand Design Solitude 374th/r and are rethinking our approach! We know enough to know we want to make a solid decision once and not be swapping RVs. Can't afford that. Taking the Trike is a must. Putting it in a garage seems a better idea than hanging off the back of a DP. We didn't like the idea of a standard toyhauler due to the loss of living space. Those ho remember me know I've had some experience with those. This seems a great option! I think we would remove one of the side sofas in favor of a custom built desk/craft space.
We know that Grand Design isn't in the same class as say New Horizons, but for our purposes of traveling say 6 months a year, it seems pretty well put together and good value for the $. We'd love to hear others' experiences. We stopped and looked at one locally last Saturday. We were both pretty impressed. As luck would have it we're headed to Indiana tomorrow to visit family so we're working a factory tour into our plans.
We still don't have a set retirement date. Sometime in the next 3 - 9 years... 😂. Just have to see how things go. In the meantime we're blessed to live in a 55+ community full of friendly RVers and research trucks, 5th wheels and DPs!

I'm a motorhome guy, but must say that Solitude 374TH is a nice layout and would seem ideal for what you describe. Very creative solution.

As long as you are looking at the GD 374TH, take a look at the Montana High Country 380TH or 381TH. almost a duplicate floorplan. Same general price range.

Gpndavid -- We've been convinced there was a DP in our future for several years. We actually really like the idea of the mid-engine Travel Supreme. Unfortunately there aren't many of those around and of those that are, the newest one is 10 years old. And it will only get older by the time we're ready to buy. That TS floor plan is actually what really piqued our interest in this particular 5th wheel model.
Who know, things might change in the next couple of years.

Thanks Brian. There's a local dealer that just got A Montana High Country with that plan in last week. Unfortunately it came in needing so many repairs the dealer couldn't show it to us😟. We're definitely planning to look at it. There is quite a bit of difference in the plans in the kitchen area.

Welcome back! We actually the Solitude you are looking at last spring, really liked the overall layout and the people who owned that one were traveling a LOT and really enjoyed being able to put their bike in the garage. Good luck with the search. I know what it's like to totally change direction from a MH to 5th wheel, that happened at the RV Dreams Rally 5 years ago!!
