We just celebrated the completion of our fourth year of retirement. It is interesting to look back and see the changes in our style of travels during those 4 years. We began with a busy pace of moving every few days and covered 11,000 miles that first year. It was a blast and we loved every minute of our hurried pace.
By the second year we slowed our pace to 6,000 miles but still moved every few days. I still had the itch to see what was around the next corner, but we did our travel days with far fewer miles.
The third year during our time in Mexico we began planning our travels around the world away from the motorhome. The financial benefits of spending 5 to 6 months in Mazatlan meant that we had money left over when we finished our stay there. It was time to visit Europe for 3 months. We came back dead tired and realized that there was a limit to our energy. RV'ing that third summer was at an even slower pace.
This year we continued our travels (still left over money from our Mexican winter) to Central America. As I sit here recovering from our busy Spring my plan is to go slower next year.
The only problem I can see with my "Go Slow" plan is that my mind and my body don't always agree. My body is telling me that I am 66 and I need to use a little common sense. My mind is already planning the next six months adventures.
We'll see who wins..... mind or body???

Your body will win. Doesn't matter how 'young' you think you still are, your body will let you know soon enough. I'm so glad we took early retirement so that we could get out and about easily. BTW - we aren't camping, we are RVing in comfort.

Barb,
You are correct, the body will win...... BUT my mind seems to have a very short memory. At the beginning of each hike I seem to have forgotten the pain of finishing the hike two days before. I'm just like my dog.... my tail is wagging and I am ready to go. After a few miles my body reminds me of my limitations.
My life is like the movie, "Ground Hogs Day". Just like Bill Murrey I am destined to repeat the previous day.
What's around the next corner?

My body did! On March 30th 2012 at just before the age of 61 a severe heart attack changed my plans the middle of July 2012! I had planned to work camp until into at least my early 70's. My day now consists of maybe a trip to the restaurant an hour on my computer, or food stores! Going home around noonish and watching some TV or light cleaning eating a light dinner then off to bed in my old stationary 5th wheel RV not worthy of being towed!
My treat is trying to save enough finances to visit my daughter and grans 550 miles away in the Fall! Yes Russ turning 66 on the 18th definitely lets my body know how aged it is, but the mind loves to play those crazy tricks, then I find out the reality! LOL.

Yep, body will eventually win.... but not before I slide into homeplate in a cloud of dust and hear the Ump call.... Safe! Go for the gusto! Change is good.

Nothing wrong with changing it up now and again. Listen to your mind for a while, then listen to your body and re-coop.
