DH and I are getting ready to hit the road when most people are hanging it up. We are 75 and 84 and we plan to travel for a year to see if we can do it. If we can, and we like it, we will sell our house and become fulltimers. We figure we have to die sometime and we would just as soon do it while we are having fun, rather than sitting at home waiting for it. Of course, our kids don't buy into that idea, but hey......
We bought a 2006 Class A, 39-foot Newmar Kountry Star. We went with a Class A to accommodate our two 14-1/2 year-old dogs (they are old, too). They don't like to ride in the car. We are hoping they will be o.k. in the MH. One can take the bed and the other can have the recliner. We'll see.....
We are taking short trips this summer to learn the MH and its idiosyncrasies. In late September we are meeting up with a couple of our daughters in Asheville. When we leave there, we are heading South (another daughter in FL) and West (daughter in Vegas). No more cold winters.
We were serious campers in the 70's. We spent summers at Dale Hollow Lake, camping in a Winnebago Chieftan MH, an Amerigo truck camper plus tents to accommodate 7 teenagers, and towed a boat. So this RV-ing thing isn't totally new to us. But we are LOTS older.
Wish us luck. Hope to see you on the road.

Hi John and Linda,
Congratulations. We are hopefully not to far behind you. I'm 70 and Ellen is two years younger (notice how I did not say her age out loud). And we don't even have the experience that you've have from your youth, except that we have lived in the woods in an old log house and heated with wood (when we were young), and I have experience drive cab-overs in traffic and on side streets (when I was younger). We also have discussed a class A mainly because I ain't so fit any more and it seems to be the easiest to set up and break down (I really wanted to get a travel trailer but have been advised against it for the additional work).
If all goes well we will rent one for a short vacation so my wife can relax about it, and then make a purchase next year. We will not be full timing, but I need to get out of the cold weather but we love the shenandoah valley where we live. Also my wife still has her antique shop that she love. I play Native American Flutes at hospitals, and I love the high desert. So I can see trips out there like I've been doing but taking the RV instead of flying and staying at B & Bs.
All this to say that I will be following your adventure closely as you allow with great interest.

We have met several couples in their mid to late 80s who are still full-timing. One gentleman we encountered at an Escapees park in Arizona was 91! (I think his wife - who was "only" in her mid to late 80s was taking over more of the driving, though.) Good luck and be safe!

Age is just a number ... how old do you feel? I'm 70 and so far so good. I'd say go for it.
