My parents are retiring in a year and they couldn't be more excited. They plan on getting an RV to finally spend some time traveling around the country. The only problem is my father has a heart condition.
I'm worried about my father having a heart attack or going into Sudden Cardiac Arrest on the RV and not having the resources to get help. Because of this fear I want to purchase them an AED or an Automated External Defibrillator from AEDSuperstore to keep in their RV in case of an emergeny.
I have a few questions for my fellow RV owners
-Have you considered getting an AED for your RV or loved ones who own an RV
-Do you have an AED on your RV?
-Where did you purchase your AED? Would you recommend them?
I feel like I have turned into my parents parent becoming a worry wort

Welcome, Grace. I understand your concern. My dad is 92 and finally got a pacemaker last year, so he's doing better now. But my brother and I never go for a walk with him without having our cell phones with us. We're just afraid we'll be out in the neighborhood and we'll need to call an ambulance. Will your mom be driving the RV, too? I'd recommend that she get checked out on it in case she has to take over.
We don't have an AED, so I can't recommend any brand or vendor. But what does your dad's doctor say? Maybe he could recommend one to you.

My husband had 3 stents put in 2 weeks before we began fulltiming. Plus a stroke 6 years before that. Retiring reduced the stress and he hasn't had any problems with his heart since. Unless his cardiologists recommends it, I would advise against. Make sure your mom knows how to drive the rig, in case your father isn't feeling well while driving. Make sure they have good cell phones and she knows basic CPR. Then let them go.
My parents fulltimed for years, then went to snowbirding. Dad actually died while they were down in the desert for the winter - went for his morning walk, sat down and fell asleep and he was gone. Couldn't think of a better way to go. All children hate to think of their parents getting older. My daughter checks our blog and if it has been more than a few days since I've posted, she'll call to check on us. But remember, your parents will die at some point. You can't prevent it. Just make sure they know you love them and are happy for them. Hard to do, I know. But it is inevitable, and your worrying will only worry your folks. They will be fine - lots of great retirees out doing the same thing and RVers are very helpful folks.

Several years ago one of the doctors at our church made a presentation about having an AED at church. About the same time the school I taught at put some in and several of us were trained in their use. I asked about getting one and having it in our coach just in case and was told that individuals were not allowed to buy one of these. That was several years ago, so things may have changed, and certainly an individual with known heart issues might well be permitted, if not encouraged, to have one. Ask your doctor.
