I'm a wanna/gonna be...We originally planned to sell the house and store the stuff, and take off when we retired. But there's an old saying..."Man plans and God laughs." So two sets of parents needing help (one after another) and 16 years later. We are free as we decide to be. We love our home in Staunton in the Shenandoah Valley and would be part-timers spending a few months a year on the road. More if I had my way and less if my wife has hers, but we're working on a win win situation because we both deserve to have our dreams fulfilled. We've worked too hard for too many years not to.
Our biggest concern is my age (70) & health (okay but not great), and our combined lack of handiness. I am trying to get to chat with older folks on the road to see how they do it, and figure out which kind of rig will be the easiest to care for. I know towing a car means to power plants to take care of, so I'd rather not, but beyond that...
Years ago, when we started looking and talking, we went to RV shows, and I quickly learned that we had different visions of a comfortable RV. I though something small with a bathroom I could fit in was fine, but I discovered that the discussion ended at a 38' class A with a double slide! I'm hoping we can know, do with a lot less space since we won't be full time. Also at that time we rented a class C for a long weekend to see what it was really like. I drove because I've driven some trucks in the past, but I wasn't used to my wife's nails digging int o my right arm as I drove because she wasn't used to seeing only a couple of inch of extra width in the lane. We met some interesting people but the site we ended up in was too close to the next and we could hear someone snoring next door (lesson learned).
I am so glad I found this site and forum now. I have a lot to learn before we make a move.
