We recently reunited with friends we met at Howard and Linda's boondock rally last year. We have similar motorhomes, so we often share experiences with upgrades and maintenance. Our friends told me about a tech finding some bolts loose on their slide mechanism and recommended we check ours. I put it on the list since we are going in for service in a couple weeks. Yesterday in preparing for severe weather, we began to turtle in (pull in all slides) and the rear bedroom slide did not move. Upon inspection, we found the motor assembly had self-destructed. The bolts had probably become lose and allowed the motor to twist enough to shatter the gear case. We were able to get the slide in before the storm and drove two hours to the factory for a replacement motor. After installing it, I checked the other slide and found one bolt about to fall out and the other three finger tight. I applied blue LockTight to all the bolts, tightened them up, and lubricated the slides. All works fine now. This just reiterates the fact that we are subjecting our homes to lots of vibrations and need to periodically grab the wrenches and screw drivers and make the rounds.
