My wife and I (mid 60's, no kids) are planning a trip from Vancouver, BCS to San Diego from about June 1st to Sept 15th. We have a 26' TT (overall length). We plan to stay mostly on the coastal highway but will go inland for anything worthwhile.
I realize this is the the busiest season, but this is when we can go. Looking for any advice re places to camp (RV parks, dry camping, state/county/unique ideas), along with any ideas on places to avoid, etc., with an eye to beating the crowds, when possible.
Also, any suggestions on things to do and see. We plan to spend a few days in LA and SF, not usual RV destinations, so any tips for these areas would be especially useful.

A couple of places to stay along the way:
> Wages Creek Beach near the border of California & Oregon in Westport, CA.
> San Lorenzo Park in King City, CA. off of Hwy 101 east of Monterey, CA.- Nice stopover for the night
> Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton, CA. off of HWY 101.... near Solvang a Danish inspired village popular with tourists... good food plus nearby wineries
> Rincon Parkway, off of HWY 101 north of Ventura, CA. Good place to stop over for the night or spend a few days next to the Pacific Ocean. Close to Santa Barbara or Ventura for sight seeing. First come first to get a spot so it's tough Friday thru Sunday to find a spot.
>Best place to stay near LA is EastShore RV Park-- www.eastshorervpark.com/home It is east of downtown Los Angeles with access to most Freeways and the Metro Train system. Provides a good base camp for you to do day trips throughout Los Angeles County.
>or Dockweiler State Beach near Los Angeles (LAX) International Airport. Some problems with this campground...jet noise and possible smells from nearby sewage treatment plant. Most people get used to both.
>San Diego our favorite is Chula Vista RV Resort south of San Diego

Suggestions for south of San Francisco...
Monterey....I like Monterey County Veterans Park. No hook ups but water and dump available...to tour Monterey and Carmel.
Santa Cruz...Unfortunately you are too long for Big Basin Redwood State Park (our first state park) just north of Santa Cruz and our CA Hwy. 1 is closed to through traffic until November or December between Monterey & Cambria.
San Luis Obispo...I like Hearst San Simeon State Park - Washburn area...No hook ups but water and dump available...to tour Cambria, Cayucos, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach and the castle...don't forget to drive on the beach at Oceano Dunes just south of Pismo but not with the TT!
Solvang is good for a day of walking around and Rincon is fun as the Bear II said.
