We plan to spend a week in the San Antonio area next month...April. Any personal recommendations for a campground?

There's a COE park - Cranes Mill CG just north of San Antonio - it's right on Canyon Lake - beautiful!

It has been a few years, but we spent a week at Travelers World RV south of the city. It worked well for us and was convenient to downtown and many interesting places.

If you're eligible, we like to stay at the Joint Base San Antonio rec area on Canyon Lake (the former Army and Air Force rec areas combined).

There is also an SKP park just 40 miles west of San Antonio, Lone Star Corral, you need to be a member of SKP's though. Good rates, with just a bit longer drive.

We also stayed at Travelers World a couple years ago and would stay there again.

If you want to get out of town…we stayed at Eastview up in Georgetown about 20 miles north a couple years back. Nice and rustic, out in the boonies where it's quiet…but close enough for easy access to downtown.

Gentle correction ... Georgetown is north of Austin, not San Antonio. As a Texan, we never confuse the two as Austin prides itself in being "weird" (they are very successful at that). We live(d) in San Antonio, which is very normal. HA!

We have also stayed at Travelers RV Park. Slightly on the expensive side but worth it in my book ( for a couple days ).
Try the Natural Bridge Caves ( 26495 Natural Bridge Caverns Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266 ). Visited them this year. Nice tour.
