Maine Forest and Logging Museum in Bradley, Maine Seeking Volunteers

I have been corresponding with the Museum Director, Sherry Davis. This is her first attempt at hiring RV volunteers, and she still needs volunteers for Spring (April/May through July). She has a couple for August through October. The following is the position and contact information.
Love history? Live at a museum! The Maine Forest and Logging Museum in Bradley, also known Leonard’s Mills, is looking for volunteers to set up their camper on the grounds for the 2017 season. Enjoy the beautiful location while helping share history with visitors, keeping the grounds open and generally assisting with events and access to the buildings for visitors.
museum has had year-round caretakers on site for more than twenty years. This new plan will allow the museum to utilize the caretaker’s house to expand museum offerings. State and national parks have been utilizing volunteer RVers to enhance visitor experiences for many years. The difference at the Maine Forest and Logging Museum is that there would only be one camper tucked in a clearing on the grounds.
The Maine Forest and Logging Museum is a volunteer-based museum sharing Maine’s history in a living history format. Demonstrations are an important part of the museum--restoring machinery and renovating buildings contributes to the goal of sharing with visitors special parts of Maine’s history. Potential volunteer caretakers can add their expertise where their interest lies.
The grounds are beautiful--and exciting! The fish ladder around the dam is now the scene of an alewife migration expected to continue to increase--so thick this past spring it was hard to see the water. Help with the Spring Run event--harvest fish for the smoke house with a dip net!
Chores would be flexible to meet the current needs on the grounds: event prep chores, general on-site security, possible help in the gift shop. The volunteer position could be an individual or couple. Starting April 1st and running through the busy season until Nov. 1, the position is a flexible one, but being onsite for major events should be planned.
This position is for people who like people--visitors are on the site daily. An interest in history will enable the potential volunteer to be comfortable with questions about the property and general logging history. (We have a library with many titles that will help with learning the subject). Take a look at the website and dream about being a part of such a unique place in Maine.
