We have been workamping here at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, SC for the last 5 months. Our boss asked if we knew of anyone interested upcoming workamping positions. There are basically three types of positions available at the park: Maintenance (what we did), Atalaya Host (which we will be doing) and Campground Host. Maintenance and Campground Host require 20 hours per week and Atalaya Host is 3 days on, 3 days off in exchange for a 50amp full hook-up site at the beach!!! If you are interested in any of the following months, please call 843-237-4440 and ask for the Ranger In Charge of Workampers. You can also leave a message and they will return your call.
November 2016 - Maintenance
December 2016 - Atalaya Host
January 2017 - Atalaya Host
February 2017 - Atalaya Host
April 2017 - Maintenance
June 2017 - Maintenance
July 2017 - Maintenance
August 2017 - Maintenance or Atalaya Host

What are the duties of the Atalaya position? Also what did you do as Maintenance hosts, do they provide the tools?
The resason I ask is I have seen volunteer positions where they require you to use your own tools. Did not go there!

Atalya Host collects entrance fees and answers questions about this historic property. It is not physical, but does required you to work 3 days on from 9am to 5pm followed by three days off. Bill and I each worked half of each day.
Maintenance really depends on your skill set. We did mainly grounds keeping: blowing, edging, trimming, digging and picking up trash. We did not run the big mowers, but if you can and want to...that is possible. Bill also repaired campsite electrical boxes because he has that skill. They can always use people with electrical and plumbing skills...but that is not necessary. It is physical and requires a good bit of walking. They provide all equipment and transportation (golf car). You must work 20 hours per couple for your site, but we always worked more by choice;o)) It kind of becomes your park and you want it to look great!!!
