Check Verizon's new plans for those who took advantage of Verizon's "Double Your Data" plan

In October 2014 we took advantage of the Verizon "Double Your Data" plan at a Verizon store in Elkhart IN. We were happy with our 40GB per month plan, but when the "New Verizon Plan" came out last month we were interested in the new features of Canada/Mexico service and roll over. I figured we would be paying slightly more if we moved to the new plan, but decided to check at a real Verizon store (not a reseller). Surprise, we were going to save $20 a month, so we made the change. Turned out the device surcharges had gone down on both the phones and hotspots more than the data plan charge had gone up. Then Verizon billed us about $25 less than our previous bill, since a mysterious $2.49 surcharge per phone also disappeared. We are happy we stopped by the store to check.
My advice is if you have "Double Your Data", to check with Verizon on the new plan and see if you will save money or break even. Breaking even would probably be worth it, you will have roll over, Mexico/Canada service (need to maintain a 16GB or more data plan to keep this) and be able to change your data limit without losing your data deal. We did have about a 45 minute wait at the store before someone could help us, so don't be in a hurry.
Diane has already called both Canada and Mexico since we got the new plan.
