Anyone else have to do Identity Verification with the IRS

I recently received a letter from the IRS that they could not process my return until I either went online or called them and completed an identity verification process. We tried online first, but didn't have enough information on hand to answer all the questions (who we sold our first house to in 1999 for example) so I called. The woman was pleasant but it took awhile and not all the questions (by design) were in the tax info I had. When we finished and I asked why it is because of a series of data breaches and a rash of fraudulent returns coming out of Florida in particular. I got flagged because of the amount of the return and the fact I moved my address to Florida. I am sure having a mailing service address did not help, but this was not specifically stated as a reason. I just wanted to mention it, because it was a little unsettling. Anyone else?

We had to do this for my 19 year old son last year too. Part of it was his fault - he was writing his social security number wrong and it was that way on one of his w-2s. The fact that he also had a mailing address in Colorado which is a PO Box (ours as where we live doesn't get home mail delivery) and also a PO Box in Texas (for the college campus he was at). I think it is a system that issues some red flags based on various factors and they just have to go through the process of verifying.
