Looking for feedback and opinions on Central Vac systems compared to just using a portable...like say a small Dyson. Would love to hear some pros and cons, and be better equipped to make a decision that is right for us.
Thanks

Last DRV had the Central Vac. This DRV has the Dyson cordless. The Dyson does a MUCH better job!

Dyson! Don't want to drag the central vac hose around the wood cabinets, scratching them. Again, Dyson, hands down. I have both.

I love our Dyson V-6 Ultimate. It will do the whole rig in "Turbo" mode (high-power) in one charge and does a great job.

Don't have a Dyson but my wife doesn't like the central vac. Only uses the vacuum dust pan. Put the vac. hose in storage.

Our central vac is killer! Of course we only use it occasionally (just two of us), but DW seems to love it. It's not a "cheapie" ... powerful and quiet. I'm in charge of the sewer hose so what do I know?
UPDATE ... DW got tired of "the hose" on the central vac and now prefers an upright. Just correcting the record.

Have the central vac. Thought it would be great. It's not. Portable all the way.

We use both, but most of the time use the portable. The central one is primarily used with the attachments for cleaning vents, furniture, etc. The portable is much better for carpet.

Portable only for us. Opted out of the central system when we ordered our DRV. As for the portable, we had a Dyson and got rid of it for a Shark. It fits well enough in the clothes closet and does a superior job over the Dyson. Dyson just couldn't do a good job on the carpet like the Shark does.

We like our Shark portable too. We had the central but it died, and the only thing I miss is the baseboard sweep inlet in the kitchen. I really liked having that. Otherwise, the Shark does a much better job on the carpets.

We have central vac with the Dirt Devil...aptly named. It's hose is awkward to use and does a lousy job. Bought a Shark and love it! Sometimes I use it just for fun... just kidding It is great, though.

I totally wanted the central vac option and after talking to many RV'ers and reading lots of forums, came to the conclusion pretty much everyone on here has already communicated--portable vac. We have the Dyson and totally love it...it's just so easy to pull out and give the coach a quick vacuum...and does a great job!

Our Teton has a built in vacuum. DW used it for a while and bought a Shark Vacuum. I reckon the built in vacuum still works. Not used it since she got Shark.

Great input and advice as always. We will be ordering a DRV Fullhouse, and I believe the Central Vac system is a deletable option. Wife has a new Dyson Cannister Pet model ordered, and we will have some time to test it out before the big final jump. In the end we could end up with a Dyson or Shark, but our suspicions are confirmed...it won't be Central Vac.

Curious, what you planning to tow that 24k camper with? Do question DRV about the pin weight. You need minimum 20% and need 25%. They are reportedly putting a light pin on them and others have reported towing problems. Tail sway. jfyi

We got a new Vilano 5th wheel by VanLeigh last month, love the rig, has most of the bells n whistles inc' the central vac. We already had a shark vacuum and love it, tried the dirt devil central vac last week, the hose is pretty hard to pull out and it needed both of us to maneuver it around the RV, don't see us using it too much. I wouldn't pay extra for one!

I often heard that you should invest in second vac, since that central ones have bad suction. From my experience having central is a bliss. We ordered the central vacuum on our previous rv, 2015 AF 27-5L, and really liked it. It came with a Eureka as well. I moved it closer to center of the basement storage to allow more room on the curb side of the trailer for storage. Handy and hose and all tools store under step going up to bedroom. Hose is long enough to reach every corner in unit. The trick is the placement.

Keep in mind that this thread was started about 2 years ago. With that in mind, some models may no longer be available.
As a reminder, it is requested that we start a new thread rather than "revive" a thread that is over 1 year old. That per Howard.

Happy owner of Dyson. He quite suits me despite the fact that I am very careful in cleaning and generally a little perfectionist)

Portable, definitely! It's much more convenient and you won't need to recharge if you get the right one. Dyson has some amazing products, but I'd rather recommend a shop vac because you can use it on incidents that involve water too, it's useful in more situations. Read more on them here if you want, I have a Craftsman myself and my RV is always spotless with little effort on my end https://popular.reviews/cordless-shop-vac/

Realise this is an older thread recently revisited but for what it's worth: We had a central vacuum add in when our 2003 was built. I actually love ours with great suction, and the kick plate I use all the time for crumbs etc spilled on the galley floor.

Our new 2020 Montana has only two small carpeted areas in it and neither is a walking surface and both are easily reachable by the central vac with crevice attachments. The rest of the floor can be swept into the port in the kitchen. One piece vinyl flooring or textured pvc in the slideouts that is super easy to clean. For now, the Central Vac works like a charm but time will tell. Our short experience so far.

I'm using Dyson and it works well for me. Since I have toddlers at home, I wanted something that's easy to use and easy to handle. So far, I've no problem with it. It sweeps off even the tiniest hair and dust on the floor. It's really awesome!

Ron is right. This is an old thread, and anyone reading it should take that into consideration. Remember that Howard prefers that we NOT revive threads that are over a year old as some of the information in it may be out of date or products mentioned may not even be available any longer.
As an example, back when I was a retail store manager of a major national electronics chain, people would come in asking for a product that they had seen a good review from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports had a tendency to post reviews of products after some period of time from when they conducted the review. Thus, folks would ask for a product that the company no longer sold.
When choosing to post a comment to a thread, one should look at the dates under the usernames and avatars.

One other option for consideration. If you have the room consider a robot vacuum. We have a Lab and dog hair is a constant battle. The only negativize we see is the small dirt cup which in our case requires emptying after each use.
