We live about 5 hours from this massive fire and fortunately have only smelled smoke for 2 days. They evacuated 88,000 people from Ft Mac basically overnight and only 2 people lost their lives in a collision on the highway out. For perspective the fire has grown to almost 200,000 hectares, that is the same as Rochester New York or London England in land mass. There's more than 1000 people fighting it and lots of bombers, dozers etc but only rain will stop it. None in the near forecast. It's been tough hearing the stories and seeing the people displaced by this blaze. Tons of people and resources helping them as best as possible.
If anyone wants to, donations can be made online to red cross . ca Alberta fire appeal. Both the federal and provincial governments are matching donations so every bit counts. Largest forest fire in Canadian history. Pretty unreal. Thanks
