Has anyone traveled up the California 101 from Point Mugu to Santa Barbara in a 40' fifth wheel? We're planning this for next week and are wondering if the roads will be problematic. I have traveled it before but in a car, the most I noticed was traffic can get slow on the 2 lane roads so our size and speed may other drivers irritate. From there I would like to take the 1 up from there to Monterey put that may be pushing it, the 101 will be better for marital harmony :)

Hiway 101- Not a problem. We drive it every year, pick it up east of Ventura and head north for the summer. Lots of traffic, but moves pretty smoothly. You did say 101; are you maybe asking about Ca 1?

As you leave Pt Mugu area you will head north on HWY 1. It's a nice wide road until you enter Oxnard. You can choose to stay on HWY 1 (Rice Rd.) a wide two to 4 lane road through a mostly commercial area and reach HWY 101.
Or veer left and head north on Oxnard Bl. It is 4 lanes but a little tighter as it goes through downtown area of Oxnard. I've done both with a 38ft 5th wheel in tow. No problem; just take your time.
Once you get on HWY 101 it's a 2 to 6 lane freeway all of the way through Santa Barbara. No problem except during rush hours, you will hit stop and go traffic. Rush hours are typically M-F from 6am to 9:30am and from 2pm to 6pm with some delays during lunchtime.

I've done all of those roads with a 53 foot fifth wheel with no problems.
