I just moved into my RV...I do still have to work for another 5 years BUT my used 5er I bought came into a problem: the hot water went out right in the middle of me trying to do dishes. WELL... the park manager referred me to the work camper saying he was certified...
He came over with his wife and looked at it saying I needed an Anoid (sp) rod... new faucets for the entire RV...and he was charging 75.00 an hour. I went out and bought them...He came over to fix and still no hot water 328.00 later!!! He told me that I needed a new hot water heater...he will fix it on Sunday. He called on Sat and stated it would be 2 weeks before he could get back to me. I called another RV repair person and it was a 12.00 part and fixed for the price of the part and his hourly wage...
The new RV repair told me that I should not have bought new faucets, it was a waste of my money and not necessary. Lesson learned for me.
WELL I called the initial work camper/repair person and asked him for a receipt so I could claim it on my taxes and his certification number... he refused to give it to me... He also told me that he will only talk to my b/f who doesn't live with me and not a woman. He didn't want me to write a check, I told him that I do not carry cash... he made me leave the top blank so he could fill it in himself.
This is my first experience with a repair person....should I just chalk it up as a loss and lesson learned or demand the receipt? All comments will be very helpful..

sounds like he is dodging the tax man on any "income" he is lucky enough to swindle. I would let the park manager know of his practices so he doesn't refer him to the next guy (or is the manager in on it too?). Hot Water heaters are not too hard to diagnose problems on and I have never, ever heard of the faucets causing the issue of no hot water in an RV.
My advice would be to talk to the park manager and maybe even consider another park if he is indifferent to the situation, but doesn't sound like you have much recourse.

well there was a reason he didnt give you his card and a good deal in the beginning.......lesson learned.......not so much he did a cash job but more because he didnt know what he was doing...............call me crooked but when its a cash job it means Im doing it cheaper ......and when its with a reciept Im doing it a full rate ....(and yes it means the taxman just got duped)......but either way you get an accurate estimate and a warranty and money back if Im wrong

Yes to the basic question: While I doubt you will get that receipt, you do have the right to demand it. That said, you're learning what I, too, have had to learn the hard way, that some of these repair folks fly under the IRS radar, and that some of them are incompetent or crooked or both. We need, as best we can, to be cautious about whom we hire and assertive in what we expect. If we don't look out for ourselves, ain't nobody else gonna do it for us.
I've also learned that certain Anglo-Saxon words help us process the balderdash.

you answered your own question!!!! he overcharged you,replaced parts not indicative of no hot water and you yourself said it never fixed the problem??
The guys a flake, You know that, tell him to shove it and move on in life.lesson learned

Just consider it one of those life lessons and walk away. It's frustrating and unfair just know that Karma will get him in the end....

Thank you all for the help... I am very certain that I will not be getting a receipt. On a plus side I did call camping world and explained the situation to them after I posted this. They were very kind and are allowing me to return the faucets for full refund. I also found an RV Tech class near where I live in Bonita Springs... so I will be taking that class in Sept. I am hoping that even if I have to hire someone again I will be more informed to not fall for a scam.
I agree Bear... Karma will bite him in the hiney one day!! But it may have bit him sooner than he thought as all my "snowbird" neighbors have known I was without hot water for weeks waiting on him to finish the job then seen another RV Repair truck at my house...I explained what had happened and they will spread the word around the park like a wildfire.
He already stated he would not be coming back here next year for work camping and unfortunately others may suffer the fate I did at a different place where he starts to work.

not sure I personally would go to the trouble of removing new taps and installing the old ones and really surprizes me a retailer would accept back used items

ticat...I cannot answer that from every persons situation... but I explained my situation in all honesty and I just got back from there where they gave me a full refund, with them knowing full well that they were installed for a total of 5 days. Maybe I was just lucky and caught the manager in a good mood yesterday afternoon when he agreed to refund me.
