It is time to renew my SD license for the first time. I read that I could get them online once every 10 years and have processed the application. I recieved an email that requested proof of residence and proof that we have been in SD within the last 12 months. How have other full time rvers handled this?

We have friends that went through this a few months ago. Their mail service told them to book a hotel room. Then they used the emailed receipt from the hotel to show proof of residency. They didn't actually go to SD though, they just booked the room and then cancelled. Now, for me, I would worry too much about doing that, and the fact that we are supposed to be in the state within the year is the reason we changed our residency from SD to FL last year.

A few of our friends used the hotel booking route. It only worked for half of them as they cancelled the room ticket and someone followed up. So I guess find a cheap one and don't cancel :)

Or you could actually STAY in the State at one of the wonderful State parks.
That's what we did when we moved there last summer. We stayed at a beautiful State park south of Sioux Falls for a week or so while we got the licenses, registered the Jeep, and registered to vote. Unfortunately, that State park isn't in Minnehaha County (the County Sioux Falls is in), so we were registered to vote in the wrong county. We didn't get everything done the first time there, so we came back and stayed at the Sioux Falls Fairgrounds. Got the first night's receipt and then we could change the voter registration to the right County.

Wow..................and people complain why the countries economy is in the toilet.
Maybe actually "Be a Resident of that State" if want some of the "Benefits".

Yes, we have weird laws in the US. But what people are doing is legal and they do not have a house. There are Canadian fulltimers, who also have to figure out which province they are domiciled in. The laws are different between the two countries, especially on the medical front, but it is the same problem for those who do not have a house, condo or apartment they call home.

I wouldn't take the "book and cancel a hotel room" route myself, just because it seems a little dishonest to me. But as far as "actually" being a resident of the state, it seems like the majority of full time rv'ers who are establishing a domicile in a state are only there for a few nights at most when they establish residency and get their license. But most of them are putting more money into the state's economy in terms of licensing and registration fees than they are taking out in benefits. JMO

I wouldn't take the "book and cancel a hotel room" route myself, just because it seems a little dishonest to me. But as far as "actually" being a resident of the state, it seems like the majority of full time rv'ers who are establishing a domicile in a state are only there for a few nights at most when they establish residency and get their license.
