A word about coach electrical protection, service and warranty –

Christmas day I get an email from friends that said: “Lost all electrical power in rig.  Please call us.”  Then a phone number.  I call, get some information and we begin trouble shooting over the phone.  Seems they have been right in the heart of the storms and took a big lightning hit.  Fortunately their Progressive Industries HW-50C (standard equipment on their rig) took the hit and protected the rig.  Its control board was fried, but the fridge and rig, etc. were still happily running on the inverter and had been all night.  (Next step, check the battery amp hours remaining – quickly.)

I gave them a work around, some other advice and suggested they call Progressive Industries – yes on Christmas Day.  Sure enough, he called me back to report indeed PI got the call, called him right back and a replacement part would be sent immediately, no charge. That’s an easy part to replace in the field and is so designed for just such an event. They also provided a work around in addition to mine.

Two points:  These true, total electrical protection devices, which are expensive, really are necessary, IMO.  And even on Christmas Day some companies do live up to their advertisements.
