Considering the dire predictions for El Niño this winter and spring, would you head to California this January or stay somewhere less prone to floods and mud slides?

Well, I'd certainly stay away from areas that succumbed to forest fires in the last couple of years. They will be ripe for mudslides with no vegetation to hold it back. We have family in Northern CA, so far no indication from them of concerns in that regard.... fingers crossed!

NoCal, Oregon and Coastal WA have been taken off our list for a while. I used to live out in Portland and a friend sent me a picture from his apartment window. Water above his truck bed! It used to rain everyday in the winter and we never had any flooding. This year has been crazy.

Unfortunately due to work obligations we'll be in SoCal for a month. Right now we're on vacation in the Anza Borrego state park area and it's very chilly, but sunny. Heading for San Diego tomorrow, then onto LA. Can't say we're excited to head to the big cities, but it's better than Seattle this winter ☺

In SD now. Its been very cold, windy & wet. Should have gone to south FL I think. Been here a month and have not worn shorts or been to the beach. I was here 2 years ago at this time and did the beach every day.

not sure what part of California people are talking about but I been coming here for over ten years and the weather has been normal for this time of year
mid 60, and some low 70 ,s so far in December ZERO rain
Last year we did get spoiled in january as it was above normal temps. no rain or mud slides anywhere in the areas I live in or visit
maybe out on th the northeren west coast 101??
