hubby wants to purchase an electric meter for our new rv....what say you?
want to be able to check amps and voltage at electric poles, check outlets for PDI, etc

Certainly having a hand held volt meter is a good idea.Get one.But for the protection of the coach this is highly recommended to protect the rig once in service.
The price might shock you.But if your rig is damaged due to an electrical malfunction in a campground (happens more than many might think) you will be more than pleased you spent the money.
These specific high quality units are available for a bit less – just shop around – but it costs this much to do the job properly.These have volts, amps and hertz readouts and will not apply power to the rig if all isn’t correct from the power plug.
Lots of threads here recommending this “should have” device.

To directly answer your question any higher grade multi meter is whats used for a multi checking situation such as you asked
