We will be traveling west from Massachusetts to Las Vegas soon through mid US states. On return in the spring, we will take a southern route to the east coast and up to Ma again.
1 - My gross combined weight for my truck and 5er my be slightly above 26K pounds ? Should I be worried as I have only a class D license.
2 - Do I have to stop at truck weight stations ?
3 - Do the propane tanks on the 5er cause problems going thru tunnels etc ?
Thanks
Gary

Gary I am also from Ma. and had the same concerns as you.
i will be heading out in the summer of 2016 and our trailer alone will be over 25,000.
It took a act of God to get a answer from the state.
finally spoke to someone from the DOT and was told that Ma. does not require a special licencing so long as you are not accepting and money.
so if you are pulling your own RV and not charging any type of fee you are fine.
any state that you are passing through will go by the laws of the state you have your licence from.
I do not know the right answer to #2 and#3

Gary, you do not stop at weigh stations unless specifically and clearly marked RVs must stop. I don't recall any state that requires RVs to stop.
Routes where propane tanks are restricted will be clearly marked.

You pretty much have your answers. The laws in MA as far as licensing are the only ones you need to deal with.
Propane in tunnels has never been an issue, but the tunnels in MA might be different ( not that you would EVER tow through those tunnels!).
Really just wanted to say "nice set up " you got there. 😉

Even if you have all of the answers to your three questions, the most important thing you can do when hauling in Massachusetts is to avoid ANY of the tunnels. It should be simple enough to route yourself around them. It may take a bit longer but take it from me (30 miles north of Boston) you will be much safer and the driving not quite so hair raising. Safe trip.

I can't speak to your specific route, but in general there will be tunnels you can't drive through with propane and tunnels that you can drive through, but will have to stop and have your propane tank inspected before you can go through. For me the inspection was to have them watch me turn the propane off.

....
...when returning up the East Coast. The Chesapeake bridge / tunnel in Norfolk VA requires propane inspection to turn tanks off. Tunnels in Baltimore prohibit propane so if comming that way you must use the Francis Scott Key Bridge or take the Baltimore beltway around the west side and take I83N to York PA and beyond. You may want to plan carefully to avoid or at least minimize tolls. Maryland bridge tolls on the Bay Bridge and on I95 are collected in North/East bound lanes only and therefore tend to be high!
