Hello everyone, My wife (Karen) and I have been looking at retiring in 3 years. We've been looking at the possibility of full time RV'ing for the last 3 months and have enjoyed what we've been reading. Have a lot of questions about RV'ing and are a little fearful of the though of selling everything and living on the road. With the cost of health insurance and Social Security up in the air of where it is going, has a person wondering what to do. Hopefully you kind people can give us some sound advice.
Blessing,
Marlin and Karen Gerig
No 5th wheel or truck
No pet
Kids are out of the house, but loved

Marlin and Karen,
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums' family. This is definitely a good source of information about both the RV's and the RV lifestyle. So, feel free to ask questions, and there are no "dumb" questions. The "dumb" ones are those NOT asked and then one learns expensive and time consuming mistakes.
As for selling everything and going to an RV, if you don't really have really strong ties to where you live, then it is actually liberating to sell it all and live in an RV. I've not touched a lawn mower nor strung out water hoses in over a year. All the stuff I thought I had to have was just that....stuff. Good riddance.
Enjoy the research and planning.

Thank you,
We don't have anything that would keep us in Northwest Ohio. Our oldest Son (Mitch is Head of Math dept. and Math teacher at Grace International School), wife and 4 grand children our missionaries in Chang Mai, Thailand, that is 24 hrs. away. Second oldest (Travis is a RN with his wife Amber) son is in Brownsville, TX, with a fishing boat he uses every other weekend and has a granddaughter. he's been telling me to move down there so we could go out fishing. Third son (Nick is a surgical x ray tech. at Elkhart General Hospital ) is in Elkhart, IN, which is the closest and has a 6 month grandson. We see them the most and enjoy that. I told my wife (Karen) that we could be close to Elkhart in Summer and TX in the winter. We see our oldest about every 2 years. We flew over to see them last summer for 3 weeks and enjoyed. Its time for us to enjoy ourselves now. We've heard of family flying in to where their parents were to enjoy a vacation with them and thought that might be nice for us to see the country and give our kids a chance to enjoy the spots we see.

I recommend attending an RV-Dreams rally. When we attended the Fall 2014 Rally we learned a lot, had fun, and enjoyed meeting others with similar interests. The registration for the Fall 2015 Rally in Lake Leelanau, MI, north of Traverse City, is still open. Diana

Don't think we will make it to MI rally, but would like to attend the one in TN. It would work out better for us.

Welcome aboard. we are under 4 years out from going full time so we are on roughly the same trajectory as you. We plan on taking in a rally closer to our start date. Should be a good time from the many comments from participants.
