My wife and I were going to sell everything and hit the road in March of 2015. My wife lost her job and we said if she wasn't able to find a job by June we were pulling the trigger.
Much to our surprise she was offered a position with Union Pacific in May of 2015. We were both shocked and a little disappointed that we couldn't hit the road. But this gives us a chance to pay off bills and hopefully gain a little more equity on our house.
Since she started her new job we have been constantly talking about how and when we can get on the road. We have decided that 2 years is the magic number. We will have everything paid off and will be ready to purchase our rig and truck. We have picked out the fifth wheel (Grand Design 366DEN) due to the fact it has an office for me to still work and the room I need as I am a big man.
Our Journey starts here and I am so excited about this adventure that all I can do is think about it!

We're the same way. Our timeframe is spring-summer 2017. Seems like that can't come soon enough but there's a lot to be done before then.

Congrats Greg, I'm sure that the time will go by quickly for you since you'll be very busy. Great pick on the GD 366. They are a great company that really is standing behind their product. Good luck and have fun planning for the next phase of your journey! Take care

I am so glad we are not alone. We hope to be FT by Mid-2017 and literally everything we do now is geared toward that goal. Selling stuff on Ebay, thinking VERY carefully when buying anything (asking "can we take it with?") and saving money any way we can. THANKS for the confirmation that we are not (too) nuts!!

Congratulations on the new job. We started a year ago planning to leave in eight years.
Then found a way to do it in five. One year down, four to go. Time is flying by. Glad we started planning early because it has changed a lot in our lives already. Such as not buying anything that we cannot take on the road. We are saving more $ for our future. It seems small, but we are also filling the trash can every week with what we cannot sell, take on the road or give away. Lots to do while we wait for our date in 2019.
Almost forgot one other useful reason to start planning earlier than later. We are going with a fifth wheel and just starting looking at floor plans. Figure we should know a lot about the different manufacturers given how much time we have to research. Thinking the 2017 units could be the ones we choose to buy as our used model in 2019 - if we don't buy new. Of course we could just wait for 2019 and research the used models then. But with all this time to plan, makes since to really start paying attention in 2017 rather than waiting. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you all for the confirmation that we are not the only ones in this boat!
We are so anxious to hit the road that we spend most of our time planning on how we can get there sooner.
I appreciate all your comments on how your preparing for your journeys. We had a garage sale and sold everything we could. We even had someone interested in the house when we leave... we promptly took their name and number and told them they would have first crack at buying it. We still have a house full of stuff that needs to go. E-Bay's a great place to get rid of some of this stuff, thanks for the idea.
One of the things I am looking most forward to, is spending time with folks like you and getting to know many new people and make friends and lasting relationships. I work from home and don't get out much, so I don't get much social time with other people. It's going to be nice to just step outside and meet new people.
Happy Travels!

Congratulations!! Being debt free is a huge advantage in this life, so even if it requires a bit of a wait I think it's definitely worth it. Good luck to you both!
