Well it has been some time since our last post and wanted to provide all an up date. My apologies if this runs a little long but hopefully this might inspire others that are wondering if all the pieces will ever fall into place or come together.
We attended an RV-Dreams rally back in April of 2011 and knew full timing was just a matter of time. We had been part timing as snow birds in a 26' Sunline TT the last couple of winters while volunteering for the Florida State Parks. This past January we visited the Tampa RV how looking for a fifth wheel that would be suited for full time use. After looking at a LOT of junk we viewed an Excel Limited by Peterson Industries. We had a long conversation with the company rep and decided that was the ideal unit for us based on our budget, quality of the unit and the amenities we were looking for. Our tow vehicle at that time was a 2011 GMC 2500 Diesel SRW. Having decided on our new rig we came to realize that the GMC as it was set up, was not going to do the job for us. As we walked around the show we came upon Classy Chassis with their display of trucks. We introduced ourselves to Tom and began a discussion about having a new GMC built. Tom asked me if I was interested in saving some money and daaahhhh said of course! He had a 2014 F450 hauler bed there with 7,400 miles on it and would I be interested in it? Would he take my truck in trade? Absolutely. It was the perfect truck for us with all the capacity we would ever need, even if we upgraded our rig. It was the right truck at the right time at the right price. Yikes, we had found our rig and the truck all on the same day. We were walking on air and dreaming with delight of all the places were were going to go.
Fast forward a few weeks and then we find out that Peterson Ind. has closed shop. We were devastated to say the least. We immediately canvased the internet looking for any units available on a dealer lot with no success. We made the decision that we would head up to our summer position in Bar Harbor ME with our TT even though we had no air conditioning due to a run in with a low clearance situation. .We now had an F450 towing a 26' TT. OOPS!
Shortly after arriving back home in April I was still determined to find an Excel Limited. I was checking the internet every day with no luck. Maybe the factory would re-open was my hope but that was not to be either. On one of my searches I stumbled onto the New Horizon web site. Being somewhat familiar with their product due to Jack Mayer on this website and seeing them at the show. We had always liked them but for budget reasons never had any serious interest. Just for giggles I clicked on their inventory tab. There right before my eyes was a used 2012 35' fifth wheel. With several calls back and forth we set our appointment to go view the rig. After much negotiating and two round trips out to Pennsylvania we are now the proud owners of our new rig. Best part of the deal was that the seller was willing to take our Sunline in trade to use while his new rig is being built. A win win for everyone!
Happy ending,as we are now workamping at a great campground enjoying our new rig and truck. Just when things look like they will never work out, situations present themselves if you just have the patience and clarity to see them. Hang in there, it's a process that is different for everyone. If you have the desire and the will, it will happen for you.
We wish you all the best and many happy trouble free miles.
