Last night we confirmed that we will be getting a 2011 Volvo 780 named Storm!
I know, it is a huge truck. After hearing so many stories over the last few years about people losing the engine in their trucks or having to go really slowly over mountains and scary downhill tales plus some great advice/info from knowledgable friends we met at the rally this year, (thanks Jim!) we decided to go HDT. We plan to be on the road for 10 years or longer, will have a heavy rig and expect several mountain crossings. When you take that into consideration, this seemed like the safest choice for ourselves and our home.
We will have to wait several months while Gregg from RV Haulers gets it ready, but it's ours! It will be set up to function as an RV for registration purposes so we can start using it for trips as soon as we get it even before our DRV is ready.
It finally feels real! We're going to be fulltimers!

Congratulations good choice.
It's amazing how mucher smaller your HDT will seem once you've had it for awhile. The foot print, if it's a single axle is about the same as a CrewCab Dually Longbed. The biggest difference is the height of your cab which provides good visibility down the road.
The turning radius is impressive. You'll be able to out turn most pickups.
And then there is the safety factor.... good stopping power, good visibility, good pulling power and very stable in bad weather.
Oh yeah and miles and miles of trouble free travel since the components are designed for over a million miles of commercial service.

Congrat's on your new toy purchase. There's nothing like the power and handling of a "Big Rig". I used to pull my stacker race car trailer around with a 379 Peterbilt............
