If 8 grand is all you have, look for something in the 5 grand range so you have money to fix the hidden problems. There are deals out there. I know of someone who paid $500 for a Class C with known issues and might be up to $5K overall after fixing known and unknown problems.

I have seen more reasonable prices in the Spring, especially in the Southern areas. People will buy and then don't like their choice and resell. Some also will come off the road and look for a home in an area they decide to retire in!

I agree with Bill on holding back some money for needed repairs. You'll be able to find something in your price range but it will more than likely need work to make road worthy and livable.

This is a good source to find reasonably priced RVs: www.rvtrader.com/
You can customize your search by whatever criteria you select. Here is a search I did of all class C's under $5,000 sorted by price, highest to lowest (32 units found.) www.rvtrader.com/Class-C-RVs-Motorhomes-For-Sale--New-or-Used-on-RV-Trader/search-results|198069,Class+C|198069&price=*:5000&radius=100&schemecode=AD&sort=price:desc&vrsn=results&newsort=1

There are plenty of real good units out there for under your budget!!!......
Rule number one........stay out of metro areas and high tourist areas when buying...
2. like it has been said.....look it over well and set money back for repairs........dont think your going to buy it in like new condition and its going to be perfect
I bought a diesel pusher...its not perfect but it was perfect for me.....kept the price and repairs in the 10 k range and have not been disapointed......depending on where you look there are extreme deals out there!!.......I have bought and sold for years and moved up doing it and supported myself

So, Mike - do you think one is more likely to find a better overall deal at a smaller community dealership or private owner? What made you suggest to stay away from larger metro's and touristy areas?

durring season there is alot of buying and selling in the metro areas.......you go to the suburbs and there are ritired people who bought , never used it and now want to off load it......metro areas have a higher selling price due to demand
