Hi my name is Chris and I am a full timer. The air/heat unit went out on my coach. I had it replaced with only air, thinking I would just use my gas furnace. The more I think about it, I am getting nervous. I am thinking I may try to buy a pretty stand alone fire place with a heater. Do you all have any thoughts on what I should or should not buy? By the way, I love reading all the posts here and they have been very helpful. Living in Central Florida, (Cocoa) Thanks, Chris

I replaced 3 drawers in a cabinet with an electric fireplace unit. We wanted the ambiance of a fireplace and found the heat unit to provide plenty of heat for our needs. Keep in mind we rarely see temps below 40 degrees where we usually stay.
If you have a gas furnace, what are you worried about? We have a small electric heater that we can move about and use most of the time to take the chill off since we try to be in areas that are above freezing. Furnace comes on for those nights that are really cold. The electric "fireplaces" do take up room - do you have room for one.

Chris, what do you mean buy air/heat unit? Are you referring to the air conditioner with a heat pump on the roof? If so, Barb is right, you don't have to have the heat pump part of the A/C. Heat pumps are actually optional features on RV air conditioners so many (probably most) do not even have that feature. Now, I would be okay without the heat pump, but I'd want to have a functioning air conditioner! Having said all that, we are adding a fireplace to the motorhome we are ordering right now. We really like the ambiance and the extra heat they provide.

We also have a small 10 inch by 10 inch cube electric heater that provides lots of heat and can be moved as needed. Plus it doesn't take up much room. It's similar to this but an older model
