My camper is sitting in the driveway, exactly as it has been for the past several weeks. Today for some reason the Safe-T-Alert co2/propane alarm is going off. Constantly! The first time I shut it off I got the green light on the CO side but it stayed red on the , now Gas side. After the first time both lights stay red. It stops screaming for a short while then starts up again. I can hear this thing from inside the house! How do I make it stop! Can I just pull it out and disconnect it? And why did it start acting this way? Has it reached the end of it's life? It switches from steady beeping to 4 beeps with a 5 second pause, then 4 beeps, for 30 seconds or so, then it resumes steady beeping for a while.

Two things to check - condition of batteries and age of batteries, assuming that you have no source of CO or propane. And why oh why do they make a combo of those two, because a propane monitor should be near the floor (as propane sinks) and a CO monitor should be at shoulder (breathing level). This is a pet peeve of mind. Depending upon where it is located, do yourself a favor and get to separate replacements and position them as listed above.

They do go end of life after 5 to 10 years. You can disconnect it and might even have a separate disconnect, since ours does. You can get a replacement and if the replacement works, then you fixed it. If the replacement still alarms, something is gassing and needs to be found. I do agree that the CO and LP detectors should be separate.

This one was mounted a few inches off the floor. I say was, I uninstalled the darn thing. That was the only way I could get it to shut off for more than a few minutes. I'm guessing it may be end-of-life related as it's more than 4 years old, and I know there is/was nothing turned on to produce any fumes or any sort. I plan to get new separate monitors as I too hate the combination ones.
