Has anyone heard anything about us not being able to register vehicles in Florida anymore? We use the St Brendens Islse mailing service and just heard today that they are getting audited because too many people are using that address to register vehicles to avoid paying taxes. Our friend was told they need to have a residential address there to register vehicles in FL from now on.
Anyone hearing anything about this?

Thanks Pierre, seems this is something new, some friends of ours got a call from FL DMV this morning to tell them they can no longer register the vehicle in FL unless they have a residential street address with proof of utility bill etc. Just trying to find out if this is an isolated incident, don't want to go through the change in residency again.

Well it can't be an isolated incident. The rules are the same for everybody within a juristiction. So, it could be a new policy change by the FL DMV. A single case sounds like an overzealous clerk not up the current regs and requirements and arbitrarily assigning their own values to the applicant in question, ....orrrrr, somebody failed to cross their t's or dot their i's on the required forms.

I tried Pieere's link, and it is showing up to me as a dead link. So, I Googled for Florida DMV and got this online resource.
What I saw didn't seem to say anything about utility bills and such, but who knows if the website is really up to date.

Call St. Brendan's Isle, I'm sure that they'll know what's going on. In my experience, They're great people to work with.

Thanks guys, it was someone that worked at the FL DMV that called my neighbor, she was told that her vehicle registration she had just applied for was being returned to her in the mail. They told her that the requirements had changed and that they needed to have an actual residence in FL now. I will do some more research and get the correct details, just wondered if there really were any changes, we are just about to send off for our own reg'

Question - why would one not called St. Berndan's Isle and ask them? It seems to be such a simple and obvious thing to do. If anyone would have correct information they would. After all, it is there business that would be affected.

Sounds a bit odd that the FL DMV would call your neighbor to be told.... that just doesn't sound right. Government bureaucracy doesn't go out of it's way to call people when they find an issue on something as routine as a vehicle registration. A form letter, maybe. My warning bells would be going off, as there is potential chance of ID theft. I'm with Barb and Jim, get confirmation with St. Brendan's Isle.

When Bill and I went to register our vehicles and get driver licenses in FL, this past Nov., they wanted proof of residency (utility bill, etc). Since we didn't have that - my Mom (who's address we are using) had to sign an affidavit that we "lived" there and she needed her license and utility bills in her name.

We are also with St Brendan's Isle. We registered our vehicles and got our licenses in January of this year and had no issues.

I would call Brendans Isle. Something sounds fishy about the DMV calling.

I called St Brendens Isle. I had every intention of doing that and had already tried but I guess it was too early.
It seems that they are (the DMV) flagging the mailing service address in FL, because too many people are using that address on their licenses. BUT, it only pertains to people with a CDL license. My neighbor is a truck driver and needs a CDL. He has been told by SBI that he does need another residential address in FL to renew it, he can no longer use the SBI address on his license.
Thank you to everyone that responded

Welcome, we were one of those that would have been affected too. Happy to find out there are no changes for us without CDL's

We just went through this process in MArch and although it was a bit painful it did work with 2 pieces of mail mailed to Green Cover Springs from a bank and insurance company. The DMV there is pretty mellow, but the rules could have changed I guess in the last 30 days I would be suprised though
