We are planning our month long vacation for this year and New Orleans is on the list. Any good RV spots down there close to it all? We don't tow but are willing to call Enterprise!

We visited NOLO in April of 2014. We enjoyed it so much the we extended our stay twice. We stayed at St Bernard State Park which was about 15 minute from the center of town. It is a very nice state park that was a nice calm setting after being in a crazy town each day. Of all the places we visited on our trip around the US, it was at the top of our favorites list. Ten days was not enough, we'll be back.

First of all.. it's NOLA, (New Orleans, LA), not NOLO :).
For places to stay, all depends on the experience you want. There's French Quarter RV Resort (www.fqrv.com) right in the FQ and walking distance to Bourbon St. You'll pay a pretty penny ($100 bill?) to stay there, but worth it to be so close.
We've also stayed out at Bayou Segnette SP in Westwego, and you can take the ferry over to visit the FQ. There's other RV Parks in the area too.

We also stayed at Bayou Segnette SP and really liked the State Park. However it is a 20-25 minute drive to the passenger ferry that drops you off at the French Quarter. There is private parking at the ferry for about $5/day. You should be able to park an under 30' RV in the parking lot. The parking fee may increase if there are major events in the French Quarter.
An RV'er, I talked to when we were traveling in January, said they stayed at the NO KOA and they had a free shuttle to the French Quarter. Last ride back was about 5pm, so daytime use only.

We stayed at Ponchatrain (spelling) and probably wouldn't do that again even thought it worked and they do have a shuttle. We would opt for a state park next time.

I would stay on the Northshore of lake Pontchartrain and take a toad or a rental to the city via the Causeway. I grew up in New Orleans but now live on the Northshore. It's both safer and cleaner.
Parks I recommend:
Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville - nice fishing on the Tchefuncte River, scenic Spanish moss draped Oaks, and an the restored 1880 The Otis House Museum is on the property.
Fontainebleau State Park - On Lake Pontchartrain. Was a sugar plantation and still contains the old ruins of a mid 1800s sugar mill. Great bicycling on the Tammany Trace that goes through the park and Mandeville, Abita Springs and Covington.
I just worked French Quarter fest last weekend and witnessed an RV buss back down a narrow street for an a couple blocks in heavy traffic as he was too long to make the turn - not fun.
Do not attempt to take your RV to the French Quarter - full of narrow one-way streets. Remember, the city was designed for horses and wagons back in the 1600s and early 1700s. There are many buildings in use today that date back to the 1700s.

They did not think taking an RV in was a good idea. (You can set the quality to 240 or 144 to not take much bandwidth).
