We are looking to soon buy our first 5th wheel and are checking out the Carriage Cameo's, NuWa Hitchhikers and Heartland Big Horns. It is interesting to balance the length, weight and budget along with what our needs are in an RV. Big Horns are plentyfull and offer a wide selection to look at.
Has anyone had luck with any of these units as all weather/ season RV's?
Who all has had dealing with the air ride systems on a 5th wheel? I see the occasional unit listed with the air ride under it. Is this something to stay away from?
Yes, PPL!! ha Combining the three Brand/Models above, there are several on their sight to study, at seemingly reasonable prices.
Wife and I studied Motorhomes for over two years before deciding that a 5th wheel was more the route we wanted to take, SO supprize the 5er's are completely a different bird to figure out.
We aren't full time, I just want to get a decent used 5th wheel for us to use.
Any words of wisdom, suggestions and/or advice will be Greatly appreciated. Farmer

We love our Cameo although we did buy it new. Nothing wrong with pre-owned, though. We pull with a Ford F350 dually and use a Trailer Saver hitch, with air bags and shocks and a built in air pump. Carriage Cameo was built on a twin box beam and is a sturdy 5th wheel. We would rather have the disc breaks, so you might look for that, if available. Also look for greasable shocks, instead of non-greasable. Just better.
Also we have been to several of the 5th wheel and Motorhome manufacturers to look at the units being built. That is an eye opener and will help you learn and make your decisions. Besides, it's fun to look and get ideas about what you like.
Carriage Cameo is no longer being built. Thor bought the Carriage company when it went into bankruptcy and they have the Cameo name now, but it is not being built on the same frame. Pat K.

Charles,
To follow up about the Mobile Suites I mentioned in your thread in the "Introduce Yourself" thread, you might also consider a used Mobile Suites fifth wheel. Alicia and Slade in Elk City started out with buying used DRV Suites models at auction and fixing them up to resell. They are now a dealer for new DRV Suites models, but they have a number of used units that have been traded in for newer ones.
Check them out at Rolling Retreats. That link at the name will take you to their home page, so just check out the Pre-Owned tab to see their used ones. As I mentioned in your introduction thread, we've experienced temps from -6 degree to up as high as 115 degrees and been comfortable inside. Only when we get down to around zero is there any problem of a freeze-up, and that is minor and will be addressed this summer when I don't have to work out in the cold to do that job.
Alicia and Slade are a mom and pop dealership and really know the value of customer service. If you have questions, check out their "Contact" tab and give them a call.
