Yep .. like I said.. f350 to 3500.. Ram is King..By a WIDE margin...
Ford folks will try and compare a ford 1.5 ton to a Ram 1 ton.. not really a valid comparison.. Plus the F450 put you into commercial insurance I believe..In some states..

It depends on what truck you're looking at. According to the link a 3/4 ton Ram Megacab can only tow a 8,325 lb fiver, while both Ford Supercab and GM Doublecab can handle a fiver weighing in well over 11,000 lbs. Even conventional (TT) towing (what most folks purchase a 3/4 ton for), the Ram Megacab comes in at 14,900 lbs (way more than I'd tow with one, btw) while the Ford Supercab comes in at 15,945 lbs and the GM Doublecab at 16,982. To be fair though the 3/4 ton Ram does come in on top of conventional towing if one chooses the Kingcab model at 17,505 lbs. Though I think someone would be foolish indeed to try to tow a 17,000+ lb trailer with any 3/4 ton. Therein lies the inherent weakness of just crunching numbers vs real world experience. I would feel much safer with a 3/4 ton Ram towing a 10k lb fiver than 14k lb TT, wouldn't you?

I've pulled 14k .. bumper pull.. with my 08 f250 diesel.. many many times.. Never a issue. ever. Did it for years..On a 12k trailer too ..lol

I guess then in that case one should go with the Toyota Tundra for their tow vehicle. Their 5600 lb truck towed a 292,000 space shuttle.
I'm joking folks. There is no way I'd tow something that was heavier than my truck's weight capacities.

Fact everything RAM is claiming is backed up by SAE J2807 standards across their pickup lineup.

At this point, Jack, Jim, and I might paraphrase Crocodile Dundee by saying "That's not a truck, this is a truck!" or we might just sit in our lawn chairs grinning, sipping a single malt, watching the festivities occasionally holding up a number to score an individual input.

Yea I hear ya..., I prefer a good aged Rum instead...
Instead of buying a $60k+ big 3 pickup and in 5-8 years having to replace it because it's been overworked or overloaded by a future RV, I decided to go big or go home....
When we want that new car smell, we'll just trade the leased Smart for a new one. $99 a month and they cover everything but the gas and tires.....

A question for you Cummins, as I don't keep up with all the truck stuff like I used to.
With regards to the SAE J2807 standards, the following link indicates that the standard only applies up to trucks with a GVWR of 13,000. Since the Ram 3500 is rated at 14,000 lbs GVWR, has the SAE standards been changed to include the heavier trucks?

I don't know I read a press release that all RAM pickups met their standards. It would be nice to have a little more info on the subject.
I thought I read somewhere them 15 F450 meets the standards.

Yes, we can tow pretty much what we want. In comfort. And never think about hills - up or down. Or aftermarket "do-dads" to increase performance. And our smart cars are great around town. And our trucks (or are the motorhomes?) are great for weekend or week-long trips away from the coach.
BUT what we do is not for everyone. It IS wise for people to get all the facts first before spending $90K+ for a Dodge 5500 set up for towing. That way you at least make an informed decision.

...and round 15479 of the great "who has the best truck" debate is on... Ram comes out with a swift barrage of statistics, but Ford ducks and slings its own... GM is quietly waiting on the ropes for Ram and Ford to duke it out before stepping into the fray. And over in the corner, the HDTs are having chuckle fits.... Boy, the testosterone is getting thick 'round here.

And it is nice to have choices. Competition is good. If someone wants a MDT/HDT or HD pickup all that matters is they do it safely.
Fact is there are far fewer MDT/HDT trucks in the full timers campgrounds because the big 3 have capable trucks to haul these big RV's that once were only able to be towed by the MDT/HDT rigs.

Dave,
Your links aren't working right. They are all directing right back to the url address for this forum thread, not to the tests.
