I had always heard that 6" of clearance was enough for a fifthwheel but I proved that wrong. We have pulled our camper to places were I use 4-wheel drive and crawl over rocks at idle speeds and never hit. I was backing into a site in a national forest campground. The site was lower than the roadway. My buddy has had his 40' motorhome in the site many times so I wasn't thinking of any problems. As the trailer started leveling out it just rubbed the corner of my bed. I was lucky no damage was done. We are leaning to a hauler bed.

We really enjoy our hauler bed. Added plus is you can see to back up
