Hello everyone! We just bought our 5th wheel today and will be fulltiming in a couple of weeks. We have decided on the Splendide washer/dryer combo that is meant to be vented. Our 5th wheel already has the hooks ups so we just need the vent installed. The dealer is telling us it will take 5 hours to intall the vent, and they charge $95.00 an hour!
So my question is, has anyone installed a vent themselves, and how easy or difficult was it?

I see how mine is installed and I don't see 5 hours worth of install there. Should be able to perform the install, sit down in chair and have about 6 "cold ones".........and still have some time left.

5 hours ??!! Looking at how ours is installed the hardest part will be cutting the 3" hole to the outside and even that is not too tough with the correct size hole saw. Harbor Freight (and others) sell the the hole saws that hook to your drill, it's a little scary to make a hole that big but just keep thinking of the $$'s you are saving and who's to say the service tech at the dealership has ever done it before either. The manufacturer of your 5er should be able to help with their suggested hole location since your rig is already "prepped" for a w/d. We had a Montana once and part of the prep was a sticker on the wall inside the compartment where the hole was to be drilled for the vent. Check for something similar in yours and that would make it easier. Once the hole is drilled it is just a process of attaching the outer vent cover, vent hose and sealing the vent cover up so it doesn't leak.

When we bought our Carrilite, we requested a Splendide as well. We actual arrived at the dealership at the same time as the washer did. It took longer for the guy to unpack the washer and carry it in than the guy that cut the hole and install the vent. Total time for the 2 was 15-20 minutes...maybe.

I don't think my Splendide has a 3" hole for a vent. I recall it to be around 2" or maybe just a shade bigger. I know it is nowhere close to 3". Yes the biggest thing to watch for before poking a hole in the wall would be to make sure there is no wires or structure to cut into.

Thank you everyone! I knew I could count on this community to help us out! We do have a Montana High Country, so thank you for telling us about the sticker that should tell us about the placement. I did call the salesman and tell him what was quoted and he even thought it was ridiculous! He is supposed to call us back and see what he can do. My husband is just really scared to drill a whole in our new camper. I did call Camping World and they said they would do it for $129.00, but the closest one to us is in Nashville, which is 3 hours away, but it might be worth the drive because our dealership will cost $475.00. Unfortuneltly we have now lost trust in the dealership we just bought our camper from :(

No worries, once you're on the road you won't be near them anyway

You could just wait on using the washer until you make it over that way to the Camping World. Be sure to make an appointment and let them know you will be waiting there till it is finished. It is a good move to have it done professionally...we did that and it is easy for someone who is experienced. You won't regret waiting. Happy trails. Pat K
