Just thought I would let our friends here know that at 0943 today Connie became a grandma as our DIL Jen popped out her first…Alexander (Grayson or Declin; the proud parents are still arguing about the middle name) Laubenthal. They deliberately didn't choose any family related names as Jen's parents are divorced and both remarried so with essentially 3 sets of parents and family names they didn't want to offend anybody. I personally recommended Bryan Neil Jr…but it didn't get many votes
Since she's a grandma I guess that makes me grandpop as well…but I'm having a hard time getting my brain around that as (usually) being grandpa means you're old as well and since I have been saying for many, many years that old is a state of mind and has nothing to do with the mileage on your body I've decided never to get old…it doesn't look like much fun from all the old people we've met in our full timing travels.
My immediate reaction on the text saying "he's here" was to say "I've never kissed a granny before" and proceed to do just that. I can definitely report that grannies kiss pretty good and taste the same as non grannies.

I know many great grandparents on the road. You can be a great grandparent before you turn 60.
Congratulations.

Thanks all. We are headed up there tomorrow to see him and his parents for a couple of days. Gotta dig through our closet and find some warm clothes though.

We appreciate all the nice thoughts…I've passed them along to Connie. She's sitting on the couch right now holding the baby…I took mom and baby over to the doc for first post birth visit this morning…Jen can't drive for 2 weeks (no real reason that I can see) and carrying the baby carrier causes her episiotomy stitches and abdominal muscles to ache…so I got to carry him in, undress him for weighing, hold him while they drew some blood from his foot to check…amazingly enough he didn't even wake up when they did that. He's a sleeper.

Congrats on becoming Grandparents!! It's a great time of life for us, spoil them rotten and then send them back to Mom and Dad.

So exciting! It sounds like you and grandma Connie are having a very good time. We look forward to hearing stories later this winter.
